---rules--- What kind of game can you make in two months? It's time to find out. You all, as a group, have between now and the kickoff party to create and present a game. The rules: 1. Participating geeqs include : dirty geeq, passion geeq, ocd geeq, and crotch geeq. 2. Nobody has to participate if they don't want to. 3. A single game will be presented by the participants. 4. The game cannot be entirely text-based. It must include graphical components. 5. The game must be modeled after an existing and reasonably well-known game (scrabble, solitaire, rubick's cube, rock-paper-scissors, dodgeball, whatever). 6. I'm available in an advisory role only. I will offer advice and answer questions ONLY if I am asked to. You can ask me in this forum or via email (if you want to be anonymous). I will answer here. You can ask me anything from "is this a good design?" to "why am I not getting any input?" to "why is james anally violating me?" 7. There will be a postmortem at the kickoff, discussing what went right, what went wrong, and why. We'll discuss hurdles and tasks faced by game studios, and how they deal with them. And we'll talk about our own plans. ---notes on rules--- A few changes are made for my version of the project: 1. I am the only participating geeq 6. Obviously does not apply ---general thoughts--- 1. First priority in creating any good game is to make it fun to play. 2. Less than two months timeframe, and a one-person team. Game cannot be too complex or it won't be finished in time. 3. Don't pick the same game or exact genre as the other geeqs 4. The main goal of this project is to learn about the process of game development, so it should be designed in such a way that lends itself well to review and comparison of all aspects of development. 5. Cover all the major fields of video games - designing, coding, animation, and audio. (overrides requirement for graphics) 6. Don't tell anybody about it until it's presented, give 'em a surprise :) ---in summary--- 1. create a game 2. prepare a presentation of the game by the geeq kickoff party (nov 23-27) 3. game must be modeled after an existing and reasonably well-known game 4. game must be fun to play 5. game must be a different genre than the other geeqs' game 6. game must be easy to review and compare development process with 7. game must include design, code, animation, and audio 8. game must be kept secret until the presentation
